Privacy Policy
Geardo ("Geardo," "we," "us") makes a mobile app that identifies outdoor, hunting, and tactical gear from photos and helps you compare prices. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
- Photos you scan. When you take or upload a photo to identify gear, that image is sent to our service to generate an identification and specs.
- Anonymous device identifier. We generate a random ID for your device to track your subscription status and usage limits. It is not tied to your name, email, or any account.
- Profile information you enter. Optional details such as a display name, photo, or preferences. This is stored on your device.
- Usage data. Counts of scans and price searches, used to enforce plan limits.
- Purchase status. Whether you hold an active subscription, provided by Apple, Google, or our payments processor.
- Notifications data. If you enable price-drop alerts, we collect a push notification token for your device and store it on our servers, along with the items and target prices you choose to watch, so we can notify you when a price drops.
How we use information
- To identify gear from your photos and return specs and details.
- To search for and display current prices and listings from third-party retailers and price-data providers.
- To enforce subscription tiers and usage limits.
- To send price-drop alerts for items you choose to watch, if you enable notifications.
- To operate, maintain, and improve the app.
Photos and AI processing
Photos you scan are processed by us and by third-party AI providers solely to identify the item and return results to you. We do not sell your photos and do not use them to identify you.
Price comparison and outbound links
When we show prices, we query third-party retailer and price-data providers (for example eBay, AvantLink-network retailers such as Optics Planet and Brownells, and similar shopping data sources). When you tap a listing, you leave Geardo and go to the retailer's own website to complete any purchase. Those sites have their own privacy policies. Some outbound links may include affiliate tracking; see our Terms for our affiliate disclosure.
Push notifications
If you turn on price-drop alerts (an Expedition feature), we store a push notification token for your device on our servers, along with the items and target prices you choose to watch, so we can alert you when a price drops. Notification delivery is handled by Expo and the Apple Push Notification service. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device settings or your Geardo profile.
Where your data lives
Your loadouts, saved items, scan history, and profile are stored primarily on your device. We do not require an account, name, or email to use the app. If you use price-drop alerts, the items you watch, your target prices, and your device's push notification token are stored on our servers to power that feature.
Third parties
- Apple App Store / Google Play and our payments processor (for subscriptions and billing).
- AI providers (to process scan photos and identify gear).
- Retailer and price-data providers (to return prices and listings).
- Push notification delivery (Expo and the Apple Push Notification service).
We do not sell your personal information.
Children
Geardo is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Security
We use reasonable measures to protect information transmitted to and from our service. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. We will revise the effective date above when we do.
